Of course, I don’t expect you to intentionally brick your iPhones, but it is still good to know about it especially if you have evil mischievous friends. It was recently discovered that changing your iOS device’s time (especially iOS devices with A7 chipset – iPhone 5s or later) to the 1st of January, 1970 will cause your device to brick, rendering it useless.
Do note that this bug will take effect after rebooting your iPhone. Also, restoring from backup or entering a DFU mode won’t fix the problem. You might need to take it to Apple’s repair center where they’d open the casing and physically disconnect the battery from the logic board. Other speculated solutions include waiting for 5 hours, I know right, that long! Or swapping SIM cards.
If there is one thing that we are sure of, it’s the fact that Apple will fix this with an update, but till then, it is best you don’t allow your iPhone fall into the wrong hands.
